Love to Paddle Eco Trip - Introduction to the Wildlife of Lough Erne

Round O, Enniskillen, Fermanagh, BT747BB
LoTP 09/05

About

This is a social paddle suitable for everyone, including beginners. Participants should be aged 14yrs+ and able to paddle at a moderate pace for 2 - 2.5 hours.

Description:

This is a guided lough paddle exploring the beautiful blueways of Fermanagh with coaching and paddling tips on the go for those who want it. Open to everyone, you do not need to be a club member to join in. The trip will be led by our friendly, experienced and highly qualified coaches, who all have a passion for the outdoors, and providing awesome experiences for our participants :)

With the support of a grant from Waterways Ireland, this paddle will be an introduction to the wildlife of the lough. Mike McClure will join us for the trip to familiarise participants with habitats and the local wildlife that can be spotted. Mike is an environmental scientist from Landscapes NI. Mike is also an experienced paddler and was involved in the development of the environmental elements of British Canoeing "Star awards" way back in 1990's. Mike will bring his thinking on sustainability and environmental connections to this paddle.

We will use stable touring kayaks for this trip. These boats fit a wide range of people and are straight running, enabling people to enjoy this journey.

Venue: Carrybridge

Equipment

We will provide all paddlesport equipment you need; kayak or canoe, spraydecks, paddles, buoyancy aids and helmets. We will be using sea kayaks for this trip.

The only thing we can't supply is your personal paddling wear.

For these trips, normal outdoor clothes suitable for the prevailing weather (tracksuit, fleeces or walking clothes and waterproofs, including shoes to get wet) are perfectly fine. If you have a wetsuit, that's great, please feel free to wear it. If you are unsure about what to wear just get in touch with us.

A full set of dry clothes including shoes and a towel are essential to bring for your comfort and safety.

Facilities
There will be parking available.

Whilst there may be access to public toilets at the Round O and a few other locations, please plan not to have to use public toilets. Changing facilities are not usually available. Arrive ready to go paddling or change at your car as many paddlers do. A changing towel and a mat to stand on make this a much easier and more discrete process, or a large bin liner to sit on on the way home in your paddling kit works well too.
