About

How many places can you get a haircut and explore the golden age of steam travel at the same time?

The Johnston family’s blend of traditional barbering and a passion for local railway history has created one of Northern Ireland’s most unusual attractions. Headhunters Barber Shop & Railway Museum displays one of the largest collections of Irish railway memorabilia on public view.

Beginning in a reconstructed booking office, where the ticket collector invites you to step on board, visitors follow the story of railway travel through Fermanagh and the border counties until the closure of the lines in 1957. Highlights include the Station Master’s office, signal cabin and a large model railway enjoyed by all ages.

The museum reflects the importance of safeguarding vulnerable heritage collections. Several exhibits on display were once at risk but have since been restored, demonstrating how small, volunteer run museums play a vital role in protecting local history.

The collection also touches on wider world events, including the Second World War, when American troops stationed in County Fermanagh relied on local railways—an evocative reminder of enduring transatlantic connections.
