About

DESCRIPTION:

The Lough Erne Challenge is a series of four guided kayak trips along beautiful Lough Erne, from Belturbet to Belleek. Each trip will cover a distance of 20-25km along the full length of the lough. Participants may book single tickets for individual trips or book all four together at a 20% discount.

This event is the final of those four trips on Saturday 19th July, beginning in Castle Archdale and ending in Belleek.

Suited to those interested in a longer full day trip and the challenge and bragging rights to say "We have paddled the length of Lough Erne".

The trip will be led by our friendly, experienced and qualified coaches, who all have a passion for the outdoors, sea kayaking and providing awesome experiences for our participants :)

Coaching and paddling tips on the go will be included for those who want it, including advice on efficient paddling, trip planning and navigation, paddling for fitness, etc.

PREREQUISITES:

All our trips are open to all, not just for club members.

We recommend that participants should be at least 14 years old and be able to paddle at an easy to moderate rate for the duration of the trip. These trips have been planned to be around 20 to 25 km, 4 to 5 hours of paddling time morning and afternoon with a break for lunch.

This means that you will be currently active as a paddler and have already completed at least a handful of half day, 10 to 15 km trips and be comfortable paddling a sea / touring kayak.

Please contact us if you are not sure if these are the right trips for you.

EQUIPMENT:

We will provide all paddlesport equipment you need; kayak or canoe, spraydecks, paddles, buoyancy aids and helmets.

We have excellent, stable touring sea kayaks (touring kayaks) that fit a wide range of people and are straight running, enabling people to enjoy this journey. Of course,if you prefer you can bring your own kayak - please let us know if you want to do this.

The only thing we can't supply is your personal paddling wear.

For cooler weather trips proper personal paddling clothing is essential e.g. a dry suit or system, or wetsuit and cag.

Alternatively for warmer conditions; comfortable outdoor clothes that are appropriate to the weather, fleeces, tracksuits etc, with a waterproof outer layer will be good, but you must have a drybag of spare kit with you to change into if needed.

Please feel free to contact us for advice if you are buying kit.

For these full day trips, we ask that you bring a packed lunch, snacks and drinks.

Please also bring a towel and a full set of warm, dry clothes and shoes to change into after the paddle.

FACILITIES:

Please plan not to have to use public toilets. Depending on the venue there may not be changing facilities available. Arrive ready to go paddling or change at your car as many paddlers do. A changing towel and a mat to stand on make this a much easier and more discrete process, or a large bin liner to sit on on the way home in your paddling kit works well too.
