About

We are delighted to announce the opening talk of our new season!

Our guest speaker is Máire Treanor, a leading advocate for the preservation and revival of Clones Lace. Máire has spent many years researching and promoting this unique craft, having first learned the skill herself and gone on to teach it to others across Ireland and beyond.

Her talk, "Clones Lace and How it Became World Renowned in the 19th Century", will explore the fascinating history of this exquisite lace. She will also highlight the pivotal role of Cassandra Hand, who established a lace school in Clones, giving local women the opportunity to create beautiful lace that went on to achieve international acclaim.

This promises to be a captivating evening celebrating local heritage, craft, and community history.

Refreshments will be served immediately after the talk, providing a lovely opportunity to chat with fellow attendees and continue the conversation.

Please come along, enjoy an inspiring evening, and support your local history society!
