Castle Coole EHOD 2026

About

Set within a beautiful wooded landscape park, Castle Coole is one of Ireland’s finest Neo-classical mansions, offering the perfect setting for peaceful walks and family exploration.

This impressive 18th-century house provides a fascinating glimpse into life at the home of the Earls of Belmore, from the grandeur of the main rooms to the often-hidden world below stairs. The restored servants’ quarters and service rooms reveal the stories of those who lived and worked behind the scenes, bringing the house’s social history vividly to life.

Visitors can also enjoy a second-hand bookshop and explore the surrounding grounds through self-led walks, taking in the scenic beauty of this historic estate.

Reflecting the theme “Heritage at Risk: Revive, Resist, Reimagine,” Castle Coole highlights the ongoing work needed to protect and preserve historic places. Since the late 20th century, the National Trust has undertaken extensive conservation, including structural repairs, restoration of interiors, and the care of significant collections—ensuring this remarkable property can be enjoyed for generations to come.
