About
Individuals from new and marginalised communities in the Fermanagh and Omagh area have brought this exhibition together. It is the result of a series of workshops exploring museum collections, identity, and representation.
With the African Caribbean Support Organisation, the group has explored experiences of ethnic minority communities in Northern Ireland. Following a visit to the World Cultures collection at the Ulster Museum, Belfast, the group has chosen the Bundu mask from Sierra Leone for display at Enniskillen Castle. In response to themes surrounding the mask, the group has created a series of artworks through facilitated workshops. Exhibited alongside the mask, the artworks and group discussions form part of the process of exploring ideas of beauty, identity, similarity, and difference.
Global Voices, Local Choices is a partnership between National Museums NI, the African Caribbean Support Organisation NI, and the Northern Ireland Museums Council. It was funded by the Museums Association Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund.
This exhibition continues until 24 September 2023
