About

Remember back in the day, before technology, when mailing a letter was a thing?

This nearly lost form of corresponding still exists...

From Saturday 1st November through Monday the 3rd, the Upper Atrium at Blakes of the Hollow will be transformed, into a pop-up art gallery of sorts.

'Outsiders', an International Postal/Mail Art exhibition created and organised by Deborah McMenamy of the visual arts group 'Not Wired for this World', will take up the space for this 3 day event.

With its roots in creativity, collaboration and community this art movement, founded in the 1950's by Ray Johnson, has always been an inclusive and accessible form of exchange between artists. It circumvents the established/mainstream art scene, enabling work to be circulated through the post as a form of connection and communication.

Up to 100 artists from across the globe will be participating by sending their art as an A6 or A5 postcard on the evocative theme 'Outsiders'. All work received will be exhibited. The call is also open to local artists and anyone interested in participating. You can visit the website, deaborahrise.com or the Facebook page 'Not Wired for this World' for the deadline and information about how to enter.

There will also be an archival display of typical mail art pieces including zines, mini handmade booklets, collage and an example of an add and pass project.

Everyone attending will automatically be entered into a free draw for handmade jewellery and other items.

The official opening is on Saturday 1st November, 1 pm - 6pm. The bar will be open on this day during these hours.

On Sunday and Monday the exhibition will be open from 12:30pm - 5pm.

We invite you to join us for this grass roots, completely handmade (even the displays), unique and inspiring event. Grab a drink, a coffee or tea, browse the gallery and maybe even catch the mail art bug yourself (there is actually a Global Community devoted to connecting people through art).
