The Legend of the Lady of the Lake
The Lady of the Lake is a mystical figure deeply rooted in the folklore of Lower Lough Erne, particularly in the areas surrounding Irvinestown, Killadeas, Lisnarick, Castle Archdale, and Aughinver.
According to local legend, the original Lady of the Lake, from whom the festival takes its name, emerged gracefully from the morning mist, drifting from island to island with a handful of wildflowers in her grasp. Her ethereal journey is said to have taken her across the lough, touching the shores of Inishmacsaint, Inishdoney, Inishgaff, and Inishclare, leaving behind a sense of wonder and timeless magic that continues to inspire the annual celebration.
