Éigse na hÉirne: Literary Festival

About

An exciting new literary festival is planned for May this year. Fermanagh and Omagh District Council will bring one of Fermanagh’s most famous medieval manuscripts to a modern audience with a weekend festival starting on Friday 13 May. The festival called Éigse na hÉirne will explore the origins of the Annals of Ulster through bilingual talks, tours and boat trips.

Learn about life in medieval Fermanagh with a talk and reception on Friday 13 May, followed by a day spent in Aughakillymaude Community Centre learning about the patrons of the Annals of Ulster and their scribes. Some interesting characters may turn up to join the themed lunch in Knockninny Country House on the banks of Lough Erne!

On Sunday 15 May festival goers will have a guided tour of the Garden of Celtic Saints in Irvinestown followed by the unique opportunity to view the sculptures of White Island on Lower Lough Erne.

This year will be the first Éigse na hÉirne weekend delving into the rich literary history of Fermanagh’s lakelands. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity for visitors and residents alike to learn about our medieval history and heritage while visiting locations not often open to the public.

The price for the full Éigse na hÉirne weekend is £90, or alternatively you can book your places on different days: events on Friday and Saturday for £60 or Sunday’s activities £40.
