About the Fermanagh Classic Fishing Festival
Now in its 49th year, the Fermanagh Classic Fishing Festival is one of the most iconic events on the European angling calendar. Each spring, anglers from across Europe travel to Enniskillen to compete on the world-class waters of Lough Erne, the River Erne and surrounding waterways.
Rooted in decades of history and tradition, the festival is perfectly timed to coincide with the spring migration, when huge shoals of fish move through the system—creating exceptional sport and unforgettable fishing conditions.
The 2026 Classic will take place Saturday 26th April - Friday 1st May 2026. With entries now open, you can CLICK HERE to register.
Over the years, legends such as Kevin Ashurst, Ian Heaps and Bob Nudd have graced the banks here, helping cement the Classic’s reputation during record-breaking years when catches stunned even the most seasoned anglers.
Today, the event continues to attract a loyal following of anglers of all ages and abilities. Numbers are capped at 200 competitors to ensure quality pegging and to make the most of these superb venues. The festival is proudly sponsored by Tackle Guru, who provide premium prizes, a high-quality angler goody bag, and extensive media coverage across their popular digital channels.
Festival Week
The Fermanagh Classic Fishing Festival itself is a three-day competition, taking place:
-
Monday 27th April
-
Wednesday 29th April
-
Friday 1st May
But the festival atmosphere runs all week. Anglers can also take part in the King of The Erne on Tuesday 28th April and Thursday 31st April, with open matches typically held the weekend before (Bobby Smithers - 26th April) to get everyone warmed up. Participation is flexible—you can pick and choose the events that suit you. To register for these fishing events CLICK HERE.
Venues & Fishing
Expect superb mixed-species fishing for roach, hybrids, skimmers, bream and perch. A variety of methods work across the venues, including pole and feeder tactics, with depths ranging from 7–15ft. Some pegs sit along the River Erne through Enniskillen town, while others are positioned on the open lough, offering excellent variety throughout the week.
Access is generally very good, with short walks to most pegs. Some river sections feature platformed swims, while others require fishing from the bank or shallow margins, so platforms and waders are recommended essentials.
Festival Atmosphere
Enniskillen comes alive during the Classic week. The town has a buzzing, welcoming atmosphere, with pubs and restaurants offering entertainment, special offers and great food in the evenings. Daily draws take place at 8:30am, with fishing from 12:00pm-5:00pm, giving everyone plenty of time to set up and travel to their pegs.
Accommodation is plentiful, from hotels, guesthouses and B&Bs to self-catering houses and lakeside stays, with options to suit all budgets. Many providers cater specifically for anglers, offering bait fridges, tackle storage and convenient parking.
The week concludes with a formal evening, including a celebratory meal (included in the ticket price) and the awarding of beautiful bespoke glassware trophies.
