Accessible Visits at Florence Court, Castle Coole & Crom Estate
Explore three of Fermanagh’s most iconic National Trust sites—each offering accessible ways to enjoy history, nature, and landscapes. From wheelchair‑friendly trails and free loan scooters to sensory support packs, guided‑tour alternatives, step‑free facilities, and lakeside walks, these estates are committed to welcoming visitors with confidence and comfort.
Florence Court:
Nestled 8 miles south‑west of Enniskillen, Florence Court offers accessible experiences across its expansive estate. Visitors with mobility needs can reserve a mobility scooter or manual wheelchair free of charge by contacting the property in advance or requesting on arrival.
The house’s ground floor has step‑free access and is fully wheelchair-friendly; upper and basement levels are reached via stairs, but a video tour and photo albums are provided for visitors unable to climb.
Around the grounds, the Blue Trail provides a gentle 3.5 km accessible route through gardens, woodland, and the famous original Irish Yew tree; no steep gradients and clearly marked paths make it suitable for wheelchairs. There’s step‑free visitor centre access, accessible toilets, an induction loop, and calming bags available for sensory support.
Castle Coole:
This stunning neo-classical house and 1,200‑acre parkland includes a range of accessibility features that help make visits positive for all. Free mobility scooters and wheelchairs are available onsite for two‑hour use; advance booking is strongly recommended.
The tour route is wheelchair accessible, although public tours involve stairs—visitors who cannot use stairs can watch a video tour in the mansion’s breakfast room instead; photo albums and seating are available.
Accessible parking (Blue Badge bays), toilet facilities, a buggy transfer service, café access via visitor reception, and an induction loop are all provided.
Outside, the mostly flat 1.7 km lakeside walk is the most accessible trail on the estate, ideal for strolling or relaxing.
Crom:
Set on Upper Lough Erne near Newtownbutler, Crom Estate combines heritage, wildlife and waterside access with helpful facilities. The site features step-free access to the visitor centre and tea-room, adapted WC/shower in the centre and stable yard, and designated Blue Badge parking bays.
Wide estate paths include ramps and gently sloping routes, though some are narrow or uneven; manual wheelchairs, mobility scooters and tramps can be borrowed or hired (booking advised) to explore the grounds.
Additional options include borrowing sensory packs and Braille visitor guides and enjoying picnic areas, castle ruins, or low‑level nature trails by the water's edge.
