What makes Foyle Trails different?

Martin the owner and guide with Foyle Trails seeks to provide visitors with memorable small group experiences, where it is the quality of the rural experience that is the priority. He has developed a number of interpretative experiences that bring the ritual landscapes, ancient habitats and mythology of the Foyle Uplands to life for culturally curious visitors. During these experiences visitors gain many fascinating insights that they
would never discover on their own and of course they also enjoy a day of  “ Flῡirse Craic ”.

Martin, above all believes that landscape exploration should be an enjoyable as well as a memorable experience and he uses his wide knowledge
of the Foyle Uplands to bring this across.

WHAT I DO

Foyle Trails provides guided driving/walking experiences that are both informative and entertaining and are designed to give discerning visitors unique insights into some of the best ritual landscapes to be found in Northern Ireland. Foyle Trail`s interpretation of ancient Celtic mythology and legends that is woven into the landscapes and habitats of the River Foyle`s uplands, are what makes our experiences truly special and unique.

REGENERATIVE TOURISM

Foyle Trails has taken a parallel step in sustainable tourism by providing regenerative experiences where visitors can make a positive contribution to the places they explore. As regenerative experiences work best as small group activities I limit my experiences to 12 participants. Because of my extensive knowledge of the landscapes, ecology, and mythology of the Foyle uplands I can readily create experiences that contribute to native habitat restoration. By doing some simple restoration work, groups can, in a small way, contribute to both atmospheric carbon capture and biodiversity enhancement.  In this era of climate change and mass tourism questioning I invite tour operators that sell small group and FIT experiences to contact Foyle Trails to discuss the regenerative experiences that I provide.

“A Step Back in Time, Matin took us on an amazing off the beaten track adventure. His unscripted experience brought us through hidden parts of the Sperrin Uplands where we explored stone alignments, fairy trees and ancient bog habitats. Martin`s knowledge of this region`s landscapes is outstanding; it stretches right through from the Ice Age to Ireland`s Bronze Age and Celtic Era. This tour is an absolute must for anybody seeking a personal journey through time!”
