Music in Fermanagh is delighted to announce that its pre-Christmas concert will take place at St. Macartin’s Cathedral on Friday 1 December at 8.00pm. In a new, exciting collaboration, top Irish soloists Katherine Hunka, violin and Finghin Collins, piano will perform well-known duo classics by Beethoven and Brahms. They will also play lesser-known works by the Czech composer Leos Janacek and the Irish composer, Ian Wilson, who will attend the concert at St. Macartin’s Cathedral and introduce his work. This concert is part of the Hunka and Collins Irish Winter Tour and is their only performance in Northern Ireland.
London born Katherine Hunka was appointed Leader of the Irish Chamber Orchestra in 2002. As a soloist and chamber musician she has been a regular visitor to the Aldeburgh Festival, the West Cork Chamber Music Festival, the Festival of Great Music in Irish Houses and the Killaloe Chamber Music Festival. She plays a Jean Baptiste Vuillaume violin (1874) and her bows are by the Irish bow maker Gary Leahy,
One of Ireland’s most successful musicians, Finghin Collins was born in 1977 and studied piano at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. He has performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, The London Philharmonia, the Royal Philharmonic, the BBC Symphony Orchestra and many more. He has been Artistic Director of the New Ross Piano Festival since its inception in 2006 and is also Artistic Director of Music for Galway since 2013.
This exciting performance in a wonderful setting will be a treat for everyone and not to be missed.
