What currency does Northern Ireland use?

 Northern Ireland uses the Pound Sterling (£ GBP), the currency in circulation in England, Scotland and Wales. Unlike the Euro which is used in the Republic of Ireland, £ sterling is not linked to the Euro.

Can I use Euro in Northern Ireland? 
In Northern Ireland Pound Sterling (£ GBP) is the local currency, the notes consists of £5, £10, £20, £50 and £100. The coins consist of - £2, £1, 50p 20p, 10p, 5p, 2p and 1p. The currencies of the Republic and Northern Ireland are not interchangeable. A number of local businesses/establishments/organisations will accept Euro, but you should contact directly to ascertain if prices & payment can be made in Euro. 

Do I need a passport to enter Northern Ireland from the Republic of Ireland?
No, there are no border controls of any kind. However, it is advisable to carry identification. Passports will be required if flying direct to Belfast from Canada or for non-Irish or UK citizens when first arriving in Britain or Ireland.

What is the best time of the year to come to Northern Ireland?
Come between April and October for the best weather, although our winters never get very cold.

Is Northern Ireland safe?
Yes. Northern Ireland has the second lowest crime rate in Europe. Even during the years of civil unrest tourists were rarely directly affected.

Approximately £15-£25 per person.

What should I budget for lunch and dinner?
The average pub lunch (without drinks) costs approximately £5 per person. Dinner for two without wine in a mid-priced restaurant costs approximately £25.

Do I need extra car insurance if I am bringing my car to Northern Ireland?
Additional insurance is not required if travelling from Britain or the Republic of Ireland. Travellers from other countries should check with their insurance companies.

Can I bring my dog to Northern Ireland?
There are no restrictions on bringing domestic pets into Northern Ireland from Britain or the Republic of Ireland.

Is it easy to travel to Northern Ireland?
There are many direct air routes into Northern Ireland from Britain as well as some North American and European links. Travel time from Dublin Airport is under two hours. There are several ferry routes from Scotland and the north of England. See the Travel section of the site for more information.

No, basic training is given on arrival.
